John Clark

John Clark, Prof. Dr. phil., adalah Pengajar Sejarah Seni di Universitas Sydney, Australia. Sepanjang 2004 - 2006, dia meneliti Biennale di Asia dengan dukungan dari Australian Research Council Discovery Grant. Prof. John Clark mendapat sertifikat pascasarjana di bidang Seni Rupa (Seni Lukis) dari Croydon College dan mendapat gelar Ph.D. di bidang Politik dari Sheffield University. Sebagai akademisi, Over the course of his academic carreer he has held numerous scholarships and has been a Visiting Professor at universities and institutions in Europe, Japan, Australia, and Asia. He is fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities, the Comité International d’Histoire de l’Art (CIHA) and was awarded the Centenary Medal of the Commonwealth of Australia in 2003. His recent and current research includes Modern Japanese Art since Meiji, Academic painting and the avant-garde in recent Chinese oil painting, the problems of modernity in art beyond Europe and North America, recently with particular focus on India, Indonesia and Thailand, comparative work on art in China and Thailand of the 1980s and 1990s towards a new definition of modernity in art, the reception of contemporary Asian art and international Biennales and Triennales.

His books include: Modern Asian Art (University of Hawai’I Press: Honolulu, 1998). His recent work includes Modernities of Chinese Art (Brill: Leiden/New York, 2010) and Asian Modernities: Chinese and Thai Art Compared, 1980 to 1999 (Power Publications: Sydney, 2010).
